Hans Praetterhoffer
Figures from the Inner Eye
About the exhibition
Across drawing, watercolour and print, figures surface from restless lines, layered marks and fields of colour.

Praetterhoffer described drawing as a way of leaving viewers a broad field of association. Human bodies, animals, masks and mythic beings appear without settling into a single identity; a line may become a limb, a landscape or an interior structure before changing direction again.
Bringing together miniatures, Psychedelirium sheets, fantasy sketches, watercolour graphics, cliché relief prints and etchings, the exhibition follows this associative image-making across three decades. Changes of paper, pressure and process alter the character of the mark, while the movement between abstraction and figuration remains continuous.
